10th Anniversary Book NM & AZ Book Awards

The New Mexico & Arizona Book Awards will celebrate its tenth anniversary in 2016. The Awards Program is organized by the New Mexico Book Co-op, which is the largest not-for-profit organization in the Southwest supporting authors, publishers, bookstores, and libraries. With over 1,500 members, the Co-op provides workshops, lunch speakers, exhibit and sales services for authors and publishers in New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and Texas.

The Book Awards now has over 50 categories for histories, children’s books, novels, covers, and many more genres. The award program each year also honors individuals and organizations that impact the book community in New Mexico. Past recipients include: Rudolfo Anaya, David Morrell, Nasario Garcia, Don Bullis, Pat Hodapp, Anne Hillerman, and many others. The Award winners are announced each year at an awards banquet – in 2016 the banquet will be held on November 18, 2016. Finalists are announced the end of September.

To celebrate the 10th Anniversary, the NM Book Co-op will publish a book listing all the winners and special awards over the past 10 years. It will explain the Book Awards program and present information on New Mexico’s long history with books. The Book Co-op expects to distribute over 1,000 copies to attendees at the Book Awards Banquet, to each library and bookstore in New Mexico, and as an insert in registration packs at the 2017 NMLA Conference. A copy will also be given to every Book Co-op member who donates $10 for the project. Printing and mailing is expected to cost about $3,000. Book design is being donated for a print as well as an ebook version. This book project will preserve this information on the literary history of New Mexico and Arizona over the last ten years and make it available to all who are interested in books in the region.

Our own little KICKSTARTER program to support the publishing and distribution of the book.
For every person who donates $10 (for the 10th Anniversary!) you will get a book mailed to you in thanks for supporting the literary history of New Mexico and Arizona. Books will be mailed out in late November 2016. They do make a great gift too!
