Open to authors and publishers anywhere; books must have some connection to the New Mexico, either as subject, author, or publisher. Books with a publication date/copyright date of 2007 and 2008 will be eligible for the 2008 New Mexico Book Awards program.

New Mexico Book Awards
Uncovering the best in New Mexico’s books! The purpose of the New Mexico Book Awards is to honor great books from New Mexico. The best of New Mexico literature will be judged by booksellers, librarians, teachers, and book marketing experts. Organized by the New Mexico Book Co-op, the New Mexico Book Awards are underwritten by Albuquerque The Magazine, Borders, and the New Mexico Humanities Council.

Eligibility
Books must have some connection to the New Mexico, either as subject, author, or publisher. Books with a publication date or copyright date of 2007 or 2008 are eligible. Previous winners of the New Mexico Book Awards are not eligible for re-submission; finalists can be resubmitted. No entries will be returned; all entries will be donated to local literacy programs or under-served libraries at the conclusion of the awards program.

Schedule
All entries must be received no later than July 1, 2008.
• Publicity for the 2008 Awards Program will begin February 1, 2008.
• People’s Choice ballots distributed—May 1; deadline September 4
• Entries read/judged — July 1 to September 15
• Finalist Awards announcement—October 15


Requirements
All entries must include the Entry Form and three copies of the book being considered. $40 per entry/per category (books can be entered in more than one category); there is a discount for entries submitted before May 31 ($30 per entry/per category). Entries should be mailed to NM Book Awards, 925 Salamanca NW, Los Ranchos, NM 87107.

Winners
Finalists and Winners to be listed on website and in media releases/announcements
Finalists and Winners will receive Award Stickers and Certificates; Winners will receive trophies
Several libraries will display all the winners
Borders will display all the winners in end-cap displays in each of their New Mexico stores
Borders will feature winners at book signing events in each of their New Mexico stores
PageOne Bookstore in Albuquerque will feature winners at a book signing event

Sponsorships
The New Mexico Book Awards program is underwritten by Albuquerque The Magazine, Borders, New Mexico Book Co-op, and New Mexico Humanities Council. Sponsorships for each category cost $50; the sponsorship covers the cost of the trophy/award and helps support publicity for the Awards Program. Sponsors can also commit volunteers to be readers/judges. Banquet
The Book Awards winners will be announced at a banquet on Friday, November 21, 2008 at the MCM Elegante Hotel in Albuquerque.
